A COMMUNITY group in Darnall has won a national prize for transforming a waste tip into a beautiful park.
The Kettlebridge Action Group scooped the Green Pennant Award for developing the Kettlebridge Doorstep Green on Myton Road.
Before the group stepped in the park was a strip of grass plagued by fly-tipping and dumping. Now it is a popular community space with seating, paths, games areas, art features and murals.
Thrilled resident Mushrat Javid said: "There isn't a day that goes by when the park isn't used and, since the park has been developed, we haven't had any fly-tipping or vandalism.
"The design of this park and its surroundings are a good example to follow when picking other green spaces to develop in the city."
Coun Shaffaq Mohammed, council environment spokesman, said: "Congratulations to the Action Group who have worked so hard. It's great to see that Sheffield has three of only five Green Pennants in this region."
