WORLD champion downhill mountain biker Steve Peat sped into Weston Park Hospital with a cheque for over £9,000!
Steve, aged 33, has long been a supporter of the hospital and the money came from a mountain biking event held annually in North Sheffield.

The two-day off-road Wharncliffe Weekender last summer saw more than 120 people, aged 10 to nearly 60, peda
lling through Wharncliffe Woods.

A dislocated ankle meant Steve was left to commentate and entertain spectators who turned up in their hundreds.

The event raised nearly £9,800 for the hospital's appeal and Steve, along with friends and fellow Wharncliffe Weekender organisers Wendy Duggan, Andrew Hardman and Max Feetham, presented the cheque to the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Appeal.

"The event was a huge success, and I think everyone had great fun," said Steve, from Wharncliffe.

"It was the second year we had put on the Wharncliffe Weekender and we had double the number of entrants and nearly doubled the amount that was raised.

"Weston Park Hospital is very close to our hearts as all the events team have had family members treated there over the years."
