A RUNNER is off to a flying start in the sponsorship stakes after taking a few tips from some retired professionals.
Sheffield RSPCA manager Kate Payton's training for the 2008 SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon was given a vital boost by a visit to Owlerton Greyhound Stadium's sanctuary for retired greyhounds where she met some former fast-paced four legged friends.

The retirement sanctuary, at Wortley's Gosling Farm, cares for retired greyhounds while trying to find them a new home.

Kate had a guided tour of the sanctuary and was presented with a cheque for £1,000 from Owlerton Greyhound Stadium's managing director John Gilburn, who was keen to help out with her fundraising efforts.

Kate, who is running in aid of the RSPCA, said: "I'm so very grateful for their financial support towards my Sheffield half marathon run."

The 2008 SIG Insulations Sheffield Half Marathon and 3K Fun Run will take place on Sunday April 27 from 9.30am at Don Valley Stadium.
