A DETERMINED couple completed one of the Peak District's most gruelling treks to raise money to improve their village playing field.
Patsy and Howard Peters, of Stoney Middleton, went on a circular, 24-mile walk, taking in some of the area's wildest and most inhospitable terrain.

The pair tackled the Dark Peak Walk, from Hathersage across Stanage Edge, Back Tor, Fairholmes, Haggwater Bridge, Win Hill and through Bamford, collecting £2,000 sponsorship.

Jane Sheldon, vice chairman of Stoney Middleton Interest and Leisure Enterprise (SMILE) group, which is receiving the money, said: "To complete the Dark Peak Walk is quite a feat because it's very demanding.

"Patsy and Howard did incredibly well and raised a lot of money for our project."

SMILE is working to improve the village playing fields and build a village hall.
