YORKSHIRE'S two air ambulances have been given a £4,000 operational boost thanks to the generosity of people in the Peak who have backed fund-raising projects organised by Hope Valley Rotarians.
The cheque was presented to the Air Ambulance charity this week by Valley Rotary President Alisma Clark who said: "The service provided by the air ambulances is amazing. Thanks to them, no patient in this part of the world is more than 10 minutes away from the nearest hospital – but the helicopters are very expensive to operate.
"To keep them both flying costs £7,200 per day and that adds up to something like £2.65 million a year."
From their bases at Leeds-Bradford and Sheffield City airports, the helicopters provide state-of-the-art emergency medical care throughout Yorkshire and the Peak every day of the year.
