BIRMINGHAM City - Sheffield United's first opponents of the new Championship season - plan to unveil more big money signings before they play host to Kevin Blackwell's side next month.
Less than 24 hours after lavishing over £1m on Marcus Bent, Alex McLeish revealed the former Bramall Lane striker is unlikely to be the last high profile arrival at St Andrews this summer.
Unlike United, who have adopted a low key approach to their dealings in the transfer market, McLeish has embarked on a wholesale makeover of his squad as Birmingham attempt to spend away their relegation blues.
Confirming that the £3.5m he received from Wigan for midfielder Olivier Kapo will be invested back into the squad, the Birmingham manager said: "Inevitably players do leave but they also arrive - you only have to look at names like Lee Carsley, Kevin Phillips and now Marcus Bent, all of whom we have signed over the last few weeks.
"I know the areas we need to strengthen as a team and as a squad.
"Marcus Bent has been completed now and I'm delighted about that.
"We are in the Champion ship and we lose a lot of revenue in terms of the Premier League but I would like to think we are amassing a team and a squad that can take us back up at the first time of asking.
"That doesn't come cheap and, as I've said before, (owners) David Sullivan, David Gold and Ralph Gold have got the power to make sure we have a right good crack at this.
"I have been in the game a long time and we all have different opinions, but I would like to think I have got the experience to know where things should be changed, changed for the better, and to pick the right players to do that."
