CHESTERFIELD open their pre-season campaign at Gainsborough Trinity tomorrow (3pm).
Trinity, managed by ex Blades star Steve Charles, have two Saltergate legends in their backroom team.

David Reeves is assistant to Charles and Steve Blatherwick is their fitness coach. Chesterfield-born Gareth Davies, who left Spireites last season, has joined as a player.

Lee Richardson's side is likely to feature most of his new signings though Darren Currie may be omitted as the paperwork for his transfer from Luton Town still has to be processed.

The 33-year-old midfielder has signed the correct FA and League paperwork, but administrators at troubled Luton haven't processed the release papers yet.

With no senior keeper on board, first year pro Dan Whatsize is likely to play a significant part in the game, though the most realistic starter looks set to be ex Manchester United, Macclesfield Town and Rochdale man Tommy Lee, aged 22, who'll play as a triallist.

However his permanent recruitment is unlikely as Richardson awaits a decision from a club, believed to be in the Premiership, about a season-long loanee.

Following on from the game against the Conference North side, Chesterfield host Premiership new boys Hull City at Saltergate on Tuesday night (7.45pm).
