Sheffield Senior Cup Final
They lifted the Sheffield Senior Cup with a well merited 2-0 win over Worksop Town in the final at Hillsborough.
It was some consolation after missing out last Saturday on promotion to the UniBond League's Premier Division where they would have joined Worksop, whose manager Peter Rinkcavage, was seeking to be the first to manage different clubs to Senior Cup wins in successive season having led Stocksbridge to the trophy a year ago - against Worksop!
Although Vill Powell fired a third minute half-chance over, Sheffield had a poor start and Worksop were unfortunate when Dave Cockerill rattled a post from 10 yards.
Soon after, Andy Boyce had a fine header superbly tipped over by Jamie Holmshaw and from the corner, Andy White's header flashed inches wide.
But Sheffield finally settled and went ahead on 27 minutes following an outstanding piece of skill from Chris Dolby and a lovely cross that gave Powell an easy header.
Straight after half-time, Cockerill wasn't far wide from 20 yards but Worksop couldn't carve out clear openings as Sheffield's organisation at the back and in midfield kept them at bay.
The clincher came on 69 minutes. Firstly, Darryl Winter had his 22 yarder pushed behind by Dave Ratcliffe. The corner was cleared, Peter Davey's effort got a deflection and fell for the unmarked Gavin Smith to fire home on the turn.
