THERE'S nothing remotely Italian about grabbing a thick, greasy artery-busting pizza after a drinking session on a snowy evening in Sheffield.
I went to the city of Pisa only five months ago. I ate a pizza. It was nothing like this. For a start, it was stone-baked. The base was crisp and thin, and it had obviously been lovingly prepared by a pizza chef who was taught to cook by his mama.
But then again, the pizza experience in the UK is not meant to mimic that of the Mediterranean. If I had been served a perfectly prepared stone-baked pizza after a night on the beer, I would probably have been a little disappointed. And hungry.

And so we took it for what it was – fast-food designed to taste great and fill you up in the process.

We went for two 12-inch meat feasts, a nine-inch ham and mushroom, and a nine-inch spicy meat pizza. The delivery guy turned up about half an hour later covered in a light dusting of snow – but the pizza was still warm.

The ham and mushroom pizza was the pick of the bunch - tasty, not too much cheese and more than enough ham. The meat pizzas – featuring beef mince, ham and pepperoni – were very nice, but extremely greasy. The spicy pizza wasn't spicy.

The garlic bread – thrown in for free because we had ordered so much – was a little stodgy but helped to soak up the beer consumed earlier in the evening.

Overal the food was nice and filling.

But mama probably wouldn't be too impressed.
