LOADS of restaurants and takeaways have come and gone around Chesterfield Road in the last three decades but the Everest has remained constant.
It is always busy and you know the food always tastes good.
The service tends to be friendly and a good atmosphere is created by the many regulars.
Although I have eaten in the restaurant several times since it opened in 1978, I haven't had man
y takeaways from there.
We popped in early on a Sunday teatime and there were already several tables full of customers.

There is a good selection of classics and more unusual dishes on the menu and the prices are reasonable.
I'm not usually a great fan of tandoori variations but if you find somewhere that specialises like the Everest it is worth the gamble.
We opted for the lamb shashlick and although it tasted delicious there wasn't much of it.
I imagine in the restaurant it would look much better and be served with salad accompaniments but sitting in its takeaway box it just looked small.
The Everest's Tarka Dhal is legendary for its fantastic combination of spices, garlic and fresh coriander. Sadly the takeaway version was too runny and although it still tasted better than most restaurant's Dhals, it was a far cry from what we expected.
The naan bread was good and our starter of prawn puree went down a treat.
