Credit crunch milestone

THE Milestone gastro-pub at Kelham Island is offering an £18-for-two-course "credit crunch" menu from Tuesday to Thursdays. Dishes include scallops in aniseed butter, fried sweetbreads, confit pork belly with star anise and black pudding fritters and whole boned silver dourade with tomato gnocchi. Hit the sweets and it's £4 extra. The pub is also asking customers to sell it locally grown produce for a tapas night on Monday, July 7.
Brewery garden party
THE award-winning Thornbridge Brewery will be open to visits when Jim and Emma Harrison hold their annual charity garden party at Thornbridge Hall this Sunday (11am-4pm). There is a beer tent, local food and ice
cream and plenty of children's entertainment. Admission is £6 (£5 concessions) with children free.

Curry night at Druid
THE Druid Inn gastro-pub at Birchover in North Derbyshire is holding a curry night on Thursday, July 24, at £25 a head. Bookings on 01629 650 302.

New pub at Ward's site
WETHERSPOON'S will start fitting out yet another new pub in Sheffield – at the former Ward's Brewery – in September. It should open next January.

Chefs an unhappy lot
CHEFS and others in the catering trade are some of the unhappiest workers in Britain, according to the City & Guilds Happiness Index, rating 6.25 out of 10. Only workers worse off are secretaries.
