LAST week's review of the Inn at Troway extolled the views from the pub as well as the food.
That got us checking out where else in our area you can enjoy a chew with a view.
Here's our selection, but if you know of one not listed, please let us know – and why. Email
martin.dawes@sheffieldnewspapers.co.ukBowling Green, Smalldale, Bradwell (01433 620 450)Sixteenth century pub with a tangle of low-beamed rooms with restaurant and beer garden offering splendid vistas of Win Hill. Fresh fish and local produce.
Cressbrook Hall, near Tideswell (01298 871 289)Stunning views from the Orangery over Water-cum-Jolly to Putty Hill. Go for a Sunday lunch or evening meal on Wednesday or Thursday. They also do afternoon tea.
Lathkil Hotel, Over Haddon (01629 812 501)Real ale paradise perched on the edge of the dale. Dining room has big panoramic views of the fields dotted with hikers and sheep. It's most romantic at night as the light fades and lights twinkle from Youlgreave and Stanton.
The Maynard, Grindleford (01433 630 321)Boutique hotel which once had a view all the way to Hathersage until the trees grew but a mural resurrects it. Otherwise, look down the lawn to the countryside beyond from the restaurant.
Millstone, Sheffield Road, Hathersage (01433 659 999)Big country pub just below the Surprise View which looks out over the Hope Valley. Best views from the terraced seating area.
Monsal Head Hotel, Monsal (01629 640 250)Cheek by jowl with the famous viaduct. Can be seen from one side of the restaurant or from the Stable bar's beer garden. Good food and great beer.
Old Horns, High Bradfield (0114 285 1207 )Some say this is the best view of all, seen through the windows of the Huntsman restaurant. It looks over Ewden reservoir and the rolling countryside.
Peacock Hotel, Rowsley (01629 580 381)This is a very discreet one, through mullioned windows to the immaculate lawn strewn, not with peacocks, but pheasants. It'll cost, though. Sunday lunch is £27.50.
Peak Rail, Rowsley (01629 580 381)This is a little tongue in cheek because it's a constantly changing view – the train as it shunts the four miles between Rowsley South and Matlock. Book Sunday lunch.
And the Inn at Troway, Snowdon Lane (01246 290 751) makes ten. Stunning views over Derbyshire.
