SHEFFIELD gastro-pub company BrewKitchen, which already runs the Cricket Inn at Totley, is to acquire its second pub – the Black-a-Moor at Troway.
The big pub, with seating for 100, has stood empty since before Christmas.

BrewKitchen, owned by local restaurateurs Richard and Victoria Smith, with millionaire Jim Harrison of Thornbridge Hall, and hall CEO Simon Webster, is to take over the lease from Enterprise Inns.

The 1930s mock Tudor pub, which was built for an estate which never happened, is on Snowdon Lane between Coal Aston and Marsh Lane, and was on the market at £28,000 a year.

Richard says the menu would be different to the Cricket.

"I want to champion British regional food with dishes such as pan haggerty, cullen skink, potted shrimps, London Particular (split pea and ham soup), lob scouse and others."

The Black-a-Moor, which gets its name from the 16th century word for a North African and from its proximity to Blacka Moor, will be changed to something more politically correct.

It should re-open in June.

BrewKitchen had also been interested in buying the Bulls Head at Fulwood.

Increased demand for its products means Whirlow Hall Farm Trust is expanding its farm shop.

"It will be a proper shop rather than the little office we have," says chief executive Bridget Evans.

The trust, on Whirlow Lane, is looking for volunteers to serve in it.

Chef brothers Christian and Danny Szurko, who took over Hillsborough fishmongers J H Mann at the beginning of the year, are now selling fresh fish on-line.

"It's the way that people shop these days and it's the next step for is," says Christian.

The brothers, who also run the Lounge bar on Glossop Road, saved the shop, the city's oldest fishmonger, from closure when boss Peter Mann fell ill.
