A SHEFFIELD catering company has landed the catering contract for the prestigious Volvo Masters golf tournament in Valderrama, Spain, this autumn.
"Logistically it's massive," says John Mitchell, the chef in charge of Championship Hospitality Solutions (CHS).

They will be taking a team of more than 40 from the UK for the tournament.

The company is owned by Hermann Beck, co-owner of the Holiday Inn Royal Victoria Hotel, where it is based.

"I speak a little Spanish but on my first site visit I found out how quickly you forget," jokes John, executive head chef of CHS and the hotel.

On his team with be 15 chefs – ten of them head chefs taking a busman's holiday from their normal work.

CHS has landed a six figure contract for the tournament, which runs from October 27 to November 2.

The company will be catering for the players, who will include Colin Montgomerie and Sergio Garcia, officials and general public.

There will be a fine dining restaurant selling international food, a coffee shop and kiosks.

"It's a big achievement for a Sheffield company – proving that local expertise can compete for, win and deliver contracts on the world stage," says Hermann.

This will be the biggest event CHS has catered for.

It did the Senior British Open in 2006 and John has catered at Formula 1 events.

Their state-of-the-art mobile catering unit includes an articulated lorry with purpose-built, fully-fitted kitchen units, an additional lorry as the support vehicle and a fold-out awning.
