BEER writer Pete Brown took a barrel of India Pale Ale (IPA) with him on a sea voyage to India to test how modern day beers survived the journey compared the 19th century originals.
Sadly, it wasn't a barrel from South Yorkshire micro-brewery Acorn – but he dropped by the Wombwell brewery to sample its own IPAs.

Brewery boss Dave Hughes is making a different IPA each month from American hops and the current brew is Liberty. The brewery is celebrating its fifth birthday and has already clocked up 40 awards.

ROTHERHAM'S real ale buffs have voted the Bluecoat pub their town pub of the year while the Travellers Rest at Brookhouse takes the country title. The Horseshoe Inn at Harley is Rotherham CAMRA's pub of the season.
