Independent travel experts Lonely Planet have named Yorkshire the third best region on the planet worth a visit in 2014.
And now proud South Yorkshire residents have taken to Facebook and Twitter with their own suggestions of local places worth dropping in to see on your travels.
Christian TheOwl Fletcher said: “Just the fact that the biggest county in England has been put in the top 10 list says a lot.”
David Bez Berrisford said: “Bradfield and Rivelin Valley, fantastic in the summer!”
Peter Sufc Frith said: “Clifton Park in Rotherham is brilliant for kids with the activity sand pit, the railway that goes around the park, the water play area and mini fun fair and crazy golf. Then there’s the museum with a lot of history in such a small building. This is all five minutes from Rotherham town centre with good shopping, cafes and Rotherham Minster, plus good rail and bus links and cheap taxis.”
Donna Eyre Buxton added: “We’ve got a lot to see right here in Sheffield, with Western Park Museum, the fire museum and Sheffield Cathedral, just to name a few.”
Jennifer Booth said: “The Button Tin Imperial Buildings in Rotherham, the home of artist Gemma Nemer.”
Angela Lane said: “It’s worth a visit to see the lovely villages and scenery in the Peak District.”
Lee Swords said: “Come and visit my part of Sheffield and take in the beautiful scenery and wildlife of handsworth, where you can see a third of all British species of Butterfly, newts and toads, birds and bees, fox dens and flowers galore.”
The online response comes after the guide failed to make any specific reference to South Yorkshire.
Victoria Levitt added: “We are so lucky to be from such a fantastic part of England, with rolling hills and greenery all around, world-class sporting facilities on our doorstep, great shopping centres, renowned theatres and an abundance of museums and visitor attractions.
“South Yorkshire is rich with history and it’s a proud history that’s reflected in everything we do so I would recommend any traveller plan a stop in South Yorkshire along their route to enjoy our friendly people, hospitality and interesting sights.”
A Welcome to Sheffield spokesperson agreed: “There are many great places right here in Sheffield – the Winter garden, Millennium Gallery, Botanical Gardens and Kelham Island, to name but a few.”
