PM was a write fool

Kate: No attack

Kate: No attack

  • by Jo Davison

A plastic princess made for breeding; a personality-free shop window mannequin...

Forsooth, had hugely respected historical novelist Hilary Mantel been at the gin?

The double Booker Prize winner’s bile-fuelled attack on the new national sweetheart, bizarrely before a bookish audience at the British Museum, provoked one mass knee-jerk reaction this week.

Everyone leapt to the defence of the poor, pregnant little Duchess; even David Cameron. Though didn’t the PM put his size nines in it? How come his highly-paid advisors hadn’t swotted up - and discovered that ironically, Mantel was describing the media’s sexist depiction of Kate, not the woman herself.

They should also have reminded him that Kate is not yet a princess. Real or plastic.
