Two celebrities recently revealed they had undergone surgery after discovering they were at high risk of developing breast cancer.
Former Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton, pictured left, had a double mastectomy in November at the age of 33 after discovering she had the BRCA2 gene. The former Celebrity Big Brother star made a swift decision to have a double mastectomy because her biggest fear was of dying and leaving her 10-month-old daughter Faith.
The same month, former X Factor judge Sharon Osbourne, pictured right, revealed she had undergone a preventive double mastectomy months earlier. “As soon as I found out I had the breast cancer gene, I thought: ‘The odds are not in my favour,” Osbourne, 60, told Hello! magazine. “I’ve had cancer before and I didn’t want to live under that cloud: I decided to just take everything off.”
