THERE'S nothing Kay Starsmore likes better after a hard morning's shopping at Marks & Spencer than a good cup of coffee.
But for Kay, from Darnall, Marks and Sparks make their filter coffee a wee bit too strong. So she asks for a free jug of hot water to dilute it .

On Monday Kay popped in to the store on Fargate, for her usual. Only when it came to the hot water the assistant told her it would be £1.25 - the same as for a pot of tea.

"I'm sorry but £1.35 for the coffee and £1.25 to top it with hot water seems a bit steep," says Kay.

She was told it was a new policy because customers had been using their own tea bags.

But according to store manager Brian Littlejohn it was all a big mistake. "I apologise. The policy is we do not charge for water."

He wouldn't be drawn on contraband tea bags but promised the next time Kay called she would get a cup of coffee on the house.

She is going to take him up on it.
