Roll up, roll up...
Learn a few skills from the circus – and improve your marriage...

You're wondering how, right?

Laughter may well be the key to a successful relationship and there are many times a couple must walk an emotional tight-rope. But surely dressing up
as Coco the Clown or dicing with death on a high-wire is taking things a tad too far?

Actually, according to performers at Sheffield's Greentop Community Circus, it's a bit of acrobatics you need to learn. And not of the naughty bedroom kind.

"Treat your beloved to a unique circus experience to remember," says their advert for a Valentine's acrobatic partner balancing evening; "A great way to get fit and strong, improve your posture, flexibility.... and maybe even your relationship."

I'm intrigued enough to turn up at a circus workshop the skills school and community arts charity stage weekly in the old St Thomas's Church in Wincobank. One of only four such projects in the UK, their church HQ was set up by the Challenge Anneka telly team 15 years ago and is still going strong, running classes for children and adults, honing the skills of professionals and finding them bookings.

Greentop events manager James Harkness greets me and explains why learning a few skills from the circus ring might just be the perfect way to your Valentine's heart: "Acrobalance is great fun and good exercise, but it also promotes trust and improves your communication skills, key features at the heart of every relationship," he says. "We thought it would make a great Valentine's weekend activity for couples last year and it proved so popular, it's back for 2010."

ACROBALANCE

The Acrobatic Partner Balancing Valentine Special takes place on Saturday, February 13, 11am to 1.30pm at Greentop Community Circus Centre, St Thomas Building, 74 Holywell Road, Sheffield S4 8AS.

Booking can only be made for pairs and costs £45 per couple.
