CAN you sing? Do you want to be in an opera?
Sheffield City Opera will perform Carmen by Bizet at the University of Sheffield Drama Studio from October 1 to 4 and they need singers.

The company would like to recruit budding toreadors and soldiers for the men's chorus.

Special music worksh
ops for the parts will be held on three Sunday afternoons in May and June, a preliminary to taking part in the main company rehearsals.

Principal roles not yet cast include Escamillo (the Toreador) and Michaela.

SCO would also be interested to hear from potential understudies for all principal roles.

n Tonight at 7.30pm Sheffied City Opera will perform the best of musical theatre with favourite solos and choruses from opera, operetta and the musicals at St. John's Church, Ranmoor, Sheffield.

Thrill to the passionate music of Casta Diva from Bellini's Norma, The Glory of Israel from Verdi's Nabucco, Softly Awakes My Heart from Samson and Delilia by Saint-Saens and Dido's Lament by Purcell.

Selections of popular favourites include Moon River, S'Wonderful and On the Town, concluding with songs from Les Miserables.

n Blake, the ex-choirboys who formed on social networking site Facebook, scooped one of the biggest prizes at the Classical Brits awards.

The quartet, Ollie Baines, Stephen Bowman, Jules Knight and Dom Tighe, are only the second act to win Album of the Year for a debut album in the prize's history.

The ninth annual Classical Brits were hosted by Myleene Klass at the Royal Albert Hall and will be broadcast later this month on ITV1.
