TONY Stewart is turning the Queen green - and lighting up the Duke of York's 'throne room'.
The Rotherham chairman's ASD Lighting company has been hired by Buckingham Palace to reduce the Windsors' carbon footprint by replacing thousands of lights in Buckingham Palace with energy-saving alternatives.

And ASD have been asked to look at the Royal Family's four other palaces – Windsor, Balmoral, Sandringham and St James Palace – to install eco-friendly lights to cut the Queen's bills and overall energy use.

"A couple of years ago we had an email from Buckingham Palace sent by the mechanical and electrical engineer to the palace who invited our sales director down to ask if we could work with them on reducing the palace's carbon footprint," said ASD Lighting boss Tony Stewart,

"We wanted to introduce LED (light emitting diode) lighting and other forms of energy saving lighting and we have been asked to look at the other palaces to do the same at those.

"We have been working with them for a couple of years now.

"All those lights you see illuminating the front of Buckingham Palace at night – they're ours.

"When we have been working with them for five years we get the royal seal of approval and we will be able to say we work 'By Royal Appointment'.

ASD have also been given another royal task - to illuminate the 'royal wee' by coming up with a light fitting for the Duke Of York's bathroom. "Someone rang and we were asked to come up with a one-off low-energy light and fitting," said Tony.
