James Shield writes about a bitter rivalry between Owls and Blades fans in the evening STAR pre-derby night.
I attended this game and witnessed events outside the ground at the now shared Bramall Lane end, which included:
Fireworks and smokebombs intentionally thrown at Owls fans, landing between police horses (not a good idea)
Blades fans joining qu
euing Owls fans, throwing fists at easy targets and running off into the crowd
Farcical turnstile arrangements - I counted 3 for roughly 3,000 fans.
Inside things weren't much better, with the scoreline at 2-1 - coins, half-eaten pies and spit came raining down on many Owls fans.
I've watched Wednesday home and away for many seasons and not seen things like this from Owls or other rival supporters - not in England, Wales or Scotland.
The notion that a shared stand is a good idea from whomever it might be, beggars belief and has to be reviewed next time round. You got it right JS about the rivalry, that's good for the game but the bitterness comes from only one side of town.
Note for Bob Dylan blade:- You're not responsible for penning the lousy greasy chip buttie song by any chance are you. Good grief, you really should get out more!
