I HAVE just finished reading The Star commet column on England's last performance or lack of, and your harsh analysis on David Beckham.
To say that Beckham is passed his best is complete rubbish! The man deserves to wear the Three Lions Shirt just for the amount of Pride and Passion that he has for playing for his country, if some of the other so called superstars had even ounce of h
is Passion for the game England would be in the mess that they find themselves in now.

He was probably England's best player on the night, he may not have been at his sparkling best but who for England was?

I agree with you that he may have spent more time at right back than putting the fear of God in to the French defence, but we need to ask the question why???

You said it yourself that the tactics for the game were negative, there was no attacking threat from England at all, and the only real threat came when David Beckham came sliding in to almost put England in front in the first half, in fact I think that was, in my opinion, the closest we came to scoring.

If you feel that you, like every other media person in this country need to criticise the national side (which really helps us, Honest!!!) why not look to the likes of Steven Gerrard, who's attempted chip in the first half is still rising, and may even be in my back garden when I get home from work, or have ago at Rio for not being selfish and having a go at goal instead of heading back across the six yard box or Wes Brown for leaving Beckham to cover for him at right back.

At the end of the day you can't really single out one player, the tactics chosen where not right for the team, but no one can expect attacking goals galore football when the FA have employed an Italian to manage the national team.

But let's just everybody wait for once to see how things pan out before we start to prepare the noose for Capello's neck and dumping Beckham on the scrap heap.

Best Regards

Chris Gent, S6 Blade.
