WORKMEN were moving in today to start the final phase of Doncaster's A638 bus corridor.
It will involve a new bus lane and landscaping along Bawtry Road, between Racecourse Roundabout and Rose Hill Rise.

The 'off-line' bus route will be constructed through the old Belle Vue car park and along Booth Avenue. Bus priority measures will
also be introduced at Racecourse roundabout, in addition to the existing traffic lanes.

Bus stops will also be relocated closer to the Dome and Asda.

David Young, of South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive, said: "We are starting work on the final phase of this project which will make a major contribution to improving public transport.

"When completed next April this new 'off-line' bus lane will further speed up bus services into town."

Work starts today on Bennetthorpe with road widening and resurfacing. It is scheduled to last until Sunday, August 3.

Subsequent phases will be ongoing until April 2009.

Some of the work will be carried out during the evenings and overnight to minimise disruption – but all noisy operations during the week will stop at 11pm. Sunday works will take place between 6am and 3pm.
