A DONCASTER school which has just been put into special measures for the second time in six years has accepted a helping hand from a Wakefield college.
North Doncaster Technology College in Adwick has teamed up with Outwood Grange Technology College in Wakefield which has already achieved success in assisting another troubled school in Harrogate. The decision to link up was taken by NDTC's board of
governors on Monday, after guidance from Doncaster education authority.
Chair of governors John Mounsey said: "The governors, staff, parents and pupils are all very disappointed we are back in special measures. But we are where we are and we've got to take the inspector's decision on the chin and move on.
"On the advice of the LEA we have entered an agreement with Outwood and they will bring an executive head, vice principle and support staff to work with us with a view to getting us out of special measures as soon as possible.
"Outwood Grange is an outstanding school, and the board's decision was unanimous. We looked at several schools which are examples of best practice and Outwood were the best we found - we very much look forward to working with them."
NDTC is among six Doncaster schools threatened with closure by the Government unless performance improves.
The Ofsted inspection in May found it was failing pupils and criticised its attendance record over the past six years - including that of the former head and key members of staff.
It said acting head Graham Thorp had made "strong efforts" to improve standards and that the proportion of students gaining five GCSEs at level C or above was expected to increase.
