Sports barbecue boosts athletes

DONCASTER College played host to the SportsAid Yorkshire and Humber Summer Barbecue at The Stables, High Melton.
Total fundraising on the night reaching £470 - which will be matched pound for pound by national partner betfair.com and will go towards supporting emerging athletes in the Doncaster area.

Guests for the event were championship jockeys Darren Will
iams and Charlotte Kerton, who each gave talks about their involvement in sport.

Darren has 400 wins under his belt, whilst Charlotte is the most prominent female jockey in Dubai.

SportsAid aims to raise funds to provide support to emerging disabled and non-disabled athletes who have no other sources of funding to turn to.

Last year the organisation supported more than 260 athletes, giving out £126,000 in grants in the Yorkshire and Humberside region alone.

In the past it has provided cash for Matthew Pinsent, Paula Radcliffe, Tanni Grey Thompson, and Kelly Holmes when they were starting out on their careers.
