A BAG snatch hero turned villain when he lied to police and tried to frame a pal for his motoring offences.
Luke Muscroft was hailed a hero last July when he chased and tackled a thief who had stolen a handbag from a woman in a street robbery.

His lawyer, Guy Wyatt, told Doncaster Crown Court he had tackled the robber and recovered the handbag before gi
ving police information to help them make an arrest.

But the 23-year-old, of Lesley Avenue, Conisbrough, has received a suspended jail sentence and a curfew for trying to pin offences of speeding and driving without a seatbelt on friend Mark Peart.

Muscroft was stopped by police on July 13 2007 driving a Citroen Saxo and was handed a fixed penalty notice. But police had video footage of him at the wheel and showed it to Mr Peart, who identified him.

He admitted two counts of perverting the course of justice and driving without insurance and was given a 16 week suspended sentence, ordered to complete 100 hours community work, given a one month 7pm to 7am curfew, electronically tagged and banned from driving for two years.
