POLICE are trying to trace a thief who crashed a stolen van into the River Don near Barnby Dun yesterday.
The red Ford Transit van was found partly submerged in the water at Thorpe Bank at 7am yesterday shortly after it was reported stolen from outside premises on Wheatley Hall Road, Doncaster

It appears the van driver lost control after crossing the
railway line near to Thorpe Marsh power station on Marsh Lane and crashed through a wooden fence and down a grass bank before entering the river. There was no one in the van when the emergency services arrived.

Any witnesses or anyone with information about the theft are asked to call South Yorkshire Police witness helpline on 0114 220 2970.
