Rubbish fires keep crews busy

FIREFIGHTERS were called after rubbish caught light on Walpole Close in Balby.
A crew from Edlington Fire Station put out the flames at around noon on Wednesday.They had to return to Balby that evening when another rubbish fire was reported at Wellingley Road on the Woodfield Plantation estate.

Serving up fun

WHEATLEY Hil
ls tennis club on Greenhouse Road is holding an open day for children aged five and upwards who want to try the sport on Sunday. Equipment is provided but players must wear trainers with non-marking soles. The event is free, 10am-1pm. Contact Janet on 01302 556430 or Mike on 01302 363847.

Address council

MAYOR of Bawtry Coun George Spencer chairs the next meeting of Bawtry Town Council on Tuesday. The meeting in the New Hall starts with a 15-minute open public session at 7pm. The public are not allowed to speak during agenda items but are welcome to stay and observe the proceedings.

Hurl a welly

ARMTHORPE is gearing up for its village fete tomorrow at the Church Street cricket fields from 11am-5pm. Attractions include a tug-of-war, five-a-side football competition, welly throwing contest, stalls and performances by Armthorpe Elmfield Band.

Glasgow rockers

SCOTTISH rockers Glasvegas play a rescheduled concert at Doncaster's West St Leopard venue on Tuesday. Support for the hotly-tipped Caledonian act comes from local bands Out From Animals and Area 15. Doors open at 8pm.

Time of LIVES

FIRST aid organisation LIVES is holding its summer fair on Sunday at the Coronation Hall and the High Street, at Owston Ferry. Attractions will include a car boot sale, craft fair and games. The fair is from 11am- 4pm.
