OFF licences have been given the thumbs up by police following a crackdown on yob behaviour in the Hexthorpe and Balby areas of Doncaster.
Police set up a 'sting' operation after concerns were raised by locals at levels of anti-social conduct in the area.

But when an undercover team tested 15 off licences to see if they would sell alcohol to underage teenagers, all refused.

Polic
e also reported the amount of alcohol seized from underage drinkers was lower than on previous operations.

Inspector Neil Thomas said: "This operation was planned in direct response to feedback the public gave us about anti-social behaviour.

Promoting safety in our communities is important to us.

"I hope this reassures local people that we are making positive steps to reduce underage drinking and the problems associated with it."

The operation was organised by Balby and Hexthorpe Safer Neighbourhood Team with Trading Standards and Doncaster Council.
