ANTI-social behaviour in Thorne town centre has been reduced after a police operation to tackle nuisance youths congregating at weekends.
More than 200 teenagers were spoken to and advised about their behaviour before being moved out of the area and made aware of the Dispersal Order which has just come into force.
The operation was planned by Pc Clair Garland, from the Thorne Safer
Neighbourhood Team, every Friday and Saturday evening for a month.
SNT officers and Doncaster Council Community Safety Wardens worked to engage with local youngsters and to gather information on people causing anti-social behaviour in Thorne town centre.
All 214 teenagers spoken to were sent an activities pack, giving information on all activities available to them, as well as a letter warning them about their behaviour.
A fixed penalty notice was issued for a public order offence, 15 dispersal notices were handed out, 20 teenagers returned home to parents and 13 teenagers attended Thorne Police station to sign Acceptable Behaviour Contracts.
Local businesses were visited during the operation and people told Pc Garland they felt a lot safer.
Pc Garland said: "This operation has had a significant impact on the number of young people in Thorne Town centre.
"The number of anti-social behaviour incidents has decreased during this operation and the quality of life for residents has greatly improved."
