A DONCASTER warehouseman who worked beyond retirement age died from crush injuries when pallets fell on him, an inquest heard.
Frederick Roberts, who was 66 last month, wanted to work on for another year at the DHL Exel warehouse in High Common Lane, Tickhill, where he worked on the night shift, said his widow Hazel.
Mrs Roberts, aged 65, of Bond Street, Rossington, was i
nformed last Wednesday morning just before 6am that her husband had been involved in an accident at work and she and their daughter were taken by police to Doncaster Royal Infirmary. But by the time they arrived Mr Roberts had been pronounced dead and she had to identify his body.
Pc Michael Miles said he attended the DHL warehouse at 5am on Wednesday and found a group of people and a paramedic giving first aid to Mr Roberts.
He assisted by giving chest compressions all the way to hospital before handing over to hospital staff.
Deputy Coroner for Doncaster Fred Curtis told Mrs Roberts the cause of her husband's death was crush injuries to the chest and broken ribs.
He adjourned the inquest to call a jury to hear evidence of how pallets came to fall on to Mr Roberts.
The Health and Safety Executive is also carrying out an investigation into Mr Roberts' death.
