THE latest addition to the menagerie at Branton's Brockholes Farm is a baby guanaco.
Now the farm is launching a competition to name the little animal - and if you win you will become the nipper's adopted parent for a year!
Guanaco are the wild ancestors of the domestic llama and alpaca and are related to camels. They are found in South America.
Once overhunted for their thick, soft, woolly coat, they are now protected by law. Guanaco is also a colloquial term for the people of El Salvador, because Chilean missionaries visiting El Salvador thought the local people reminded them of guanacos! John Minion, animal director at the farm, said he was pleased with the new arrival.
He said: "Guanaco are very hardy and the calf seems to be strong and healthy, which is great news.
"We are now looking for a name for him or her. We have only just taken over the farm and have decided that we will name animals born in a year with the same letter of the alphabet - this is first and so we are looking for a name beginning with 'A'.
