PUBLIC consultation starts today on the future of Doncaster's St George's conservation area near the St George's Minster.
Residents are being asked for their views on the future of the draft plan for the area which sets out what is special about it and offers guidance to people submitting planning applications.
Doncaster Council is writing a report on the quality of
areas of architectural and historic interest to see how the borough's existing character can be protected and enhanced.
The St George's area, which was designated a conservation area in 1997, is part of the council's programme to review all 46 conservation areas in the borough.
Mayor Martin Winter said: "This is a great opportunity for people to have their say in the regeneration of a key and well-loved area of Doncaster. There is fantastic scope for development in this area and it is vitally important people give us their views on how we can protect our historic sites of interest to reflect local aspirations."
The draft appraisal can be viewed at the reception of Danum House, St Sepulchre Gate, at Central Library or at www.doncaster.gov.uk/planning.
The conservation area is bounded by Church View, Church Way, and the former route of Greyfriars Road. It extends north to include part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation New Cut.
