ORGANISERS of a planned Party in the Park at Doncaster's St Leger Horse Park have axed the event because of poor ticket sales.
Managers were today blaming the flop on poor weather in the last few weeks which they say has made hosting a concert on green fields an issue.

The move comes as a blow to two Doncaster charities which were set to benefit from the event, the Mayflo
wer Animal Sanctuary in Bawtry and the South Yorkshire Training Trust which runs the park.

"We are really sorry to have to cancel the event but the good old British weather has put paid to our plans to host the party on site," said Ben Mico, commercial manager at the park, which was co-organising the event with the Mayflower Animal Sanctuary from Bawtry. "As we are a greenfield site there is no other area suitable to host the event so we have had to look long and hard and the decision has been taken to cancel it.

"That coupled with the fact that we have had lesser than expected ticket sales as people are waiting to see what the weather is like before committing themselves to buying tickets in advance to an outdoor event which is totally understandable."

The event was due to go ahead on Sunday was to include a line up of five bands in an open air concert, with proceeds to be shared between the two charities.

Jennie Foxall-Lord, Mayflower Animal Sanctuary manager, added: "We are all very disappointed that we have had to make the decision to cancel Party in the Park. Everyone has worked so hard and we had been overwhelmed with the tremendous support from all the bands and musicians that had offered to perform. However the prolonged wet weather has taken its toll on the event and no amount of hard work or support can change that."

Ticket refunds are available from The Dome.
