A SPECIALIST water rescue team from Edlington fire station was dispatched after a car plunged into the canal at Tinsley in Sheffield last night.
Fire crews were alerted by police to the incident on Wharf Road just before 11pm.

A fire service spokesman said a people carrier type car had gone into the water.

She said: "We sent four appliances to the scene and our water rescue unit. A couple of firefighters got into the water wearing protective clothing suits and did a check around the vehicle to make sure there was nobody in there but they didn't find anybody. It appears the car may have been pushed into the canal."
