MEDICS turned the clock back 60 years to help Doncaster residents see how far the National Health Service has grown up since it was born.
Staff from hospitals, surgeries and the ambulance service demonstrated how healthcare and equipment has changed for the better since the NHS was launched in 1948.
Making a rare public appearance was a vintage Austin ambulance, fitted with a leather stretcher and a single emergency light, which stood in contrast to the hi-tech lifesaving equipment fitted inside a 21st century ambulance.
The health fair organised by Doncaster Primary Care Trust had 50 stands and attracted young and old interested in how health care had changed since just after the war.
They were given a chance to try out hi-tech dance exercise mats, wear a pair of beer goggles to see the dangers that drink can cause, sample Indian massage, have blood pressure checks, and wear a special suit to simulate the effects of having a stroke.
