A DONCASTER postmaster who used an axe handle to fight off vicious armed robbers has vowed to stay in business.
David Henderson's premises in Bentley Road are due to re-open as soon as damaged doors and windows have been repaired.

Mr Henderson, who has been there for 13 years, admitted he was frightened but adrenalin took over and made him determined to fig
ht off the three hammer-wielding robbers who burst into the premises on July 31.

He and his wife were trapped in a back room of the shop and he waved his axe handle at them to deter them from coming further into the room in their search for cash. The robbers used their hammers to smash computer screens and a glass door panel but left empty-handed, heading towards Haslemere Grove and Frank Road.

Mr Henderson said: "They were shouting but they were muffled up with scarves. There was glass everywhere, they came in and they started smashing the windows. They ran away when they realised they wouldn't get anywhere. It wasn't very pleasant."

Anyone who saw the three men, wearing dark clothing, at about 3.30pm last Thursday should call DS Darren Haigh on 01302 385369 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
