A PLAY area at a Doncaster park will be closed for weeks after mindless vandals set fire to part of it.
Several thousand pounds' worth of play equipment in the grounds of Cusworth Hall, Museum and Park were destroyed by the arson attack.

Wheelie bins and a tree were also set ablaze during the incident, which was spotted by Doncaster Council CCTV mon
itoring staff who alerted the fire service. Tapes of activity in the area around the time have been passed to the police.

The Mayor of Doncaster, Martin Winter, has been disgusted by the vandalism.

He said: "The play tower is very popular and unfortunately this attack means the entire play area will be out of action for several weeks while we carry out repairs.

"We are working closely with our partners at South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and South Yorkshire Police to tackle anti-social behaviour and to reduce arson across the borough as this type of behaviour is not acceptable.

"We urge people to come forward with information that may lead to the arrest of these perpetrators."

Anyone with information about the fire, on Tuesday night, should call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
