PLUCKY paperboy Ali Robinson proved he is The Star - when he raised the alarm after discovering a fire on his round.
The 14-year-old was delivering a copy of The Star to 83-year-old reader Johanna O'Connor when he spotted smoke pouring from her letterbox. He dashed to the back of the property to make sure no-one was inside, then hammered on a neighbour's door to tell them to call the fire brigade.

Luckily, Mrs O'Connor was not at home. A ham left boiling on the stove had started the blaze at her home in Whitley View Road, Blackburn, Rotherham.

Today Ali was hailed a hero by Mrs O'Connor, who said: "You hear so many terrible things about the youth of today but what he did was wonderful."

Ali, of Kirkstead Road, Rotherham, said: "I went to post The Star through the letterbox and suddenly there was smoke pouring out.

"I went round the back to see if anyone was in and to make sure no-one was hurt.

"Then I got a neighbour to call the fire brigade and I waited with them to make sure it was all okay."
