FOUR children's play projects are being set up to help some of Doncaster's most hard-up areas, Doncaster Council bosses have announced.
The authority says the schemes will be paid for with a £700,000 National Lottery grant and will help the most disadvantaged and geographically isolated areas of the borough.
The grant will provide an opportunity for over 8,000 local children to st
ay healthy, have fun and experience play in better environments through the launch of new activities.
They will include a play ranger scheme, creative play projects run by artists, activity clubs and a new and innovative play park.
Mayor of Doncaster Martin Winter said: "Investing in the spirit and potential of all Doncaster's children and young people is an ongoing priority.
"I am delighted to have been successful in securing this substantial grant that will benefit so many youngsters and parents."
Doncaster is the only local authority in South Yorkshire to have been allocated funding this year under the scheme.
The grant secured is over a three-year programme and consists of four individual projects - the Doncaster Dome Leisure Trust's Play Ranger Scheme; Doncaster Community Arts' Exciting Explorations scheme; the Rural and Travellers Out of School Club; and the Denaby Main and Conisbrough Play Project.
