DEVELOPERS behind controversial plans for a Rossington eco-town say 1,000 people have seen their revised plans for the scheme so far.
And UK Coal, which is behind the scheme on the former pit site, is urging more to visit its display at the Rossington Carnival on Bank Holiday Monday, August 25.

The plans have already been displayed at the Holmescarr Enterprise Centre, Rossington
Post Office, and the Rossington Welfare and Learning Centre. Feedback forms returned from those exhibitions, as well as those on Carnival Day, will be eligible for a prize draw to win one of four mountain bikes.

The Rossington project was short-listed in April as one of 15 regional sites for environmentally friendly ecotown status. The successful applicants are expected to be named around the turn of the year.

The scheme has been scaled down from an original 15,000 properties to 5,000. The original scheme included green belt land.

Opponents of the scheme ran a village referendum asking if residents wanted to see houses built on fields around Rossington, with 96 per cent voting "no". Organisers of the poll claimed it represented a vote against the modified scheme as much as the original.

The masterplan will be on display in the Rossington Regeneration Tent at the village carnival from midday to around 5pm. Staff will be on hand to advise visitors of the proposals and the transport plans which have a heavy emphasis on cycle use.

If the Rossington eco-town project gets the go-ahead, construction work could start on the early phases of the 425 acre scheme within about two years, with the eco-town completed by around 2030.
