SWIMMING pools at The Dome are in line for a major makeover with mega-flumes bringing facilities bang up to date.
Workmen move in after the half-term holiday to transform The Lagoons in a £330,000 refurbishment which will see two new flumes installed.
Dome management expect the improved facilities to increase the number of visitors, which already stand at mor
e than one million a year.
The Lagoons will be closed to the public from November 3 to December 1 to allow the new flumes to be erected and work on changing room improvements including new lockers and showers.
Other new features including a mini slide, water curtains and water jets, as well as a full refurbishment of the area.
Gavin Baldwin, chief executive of The Dome, said: "This is a large investment for us and a significant milestone.
"The Dome attracts more than a million visitors a year and is a much-loved venue. In a bid to keep our facilities at the forefront of leisure activities and to keep our swimmers happy we have decided to invest in improving this area.
"The new look flumes will attract more visitors to the venue and people will come from further afield to enjoy the new spectacular leisure swimming experience."
As well as work to the main flumes, the toddler pool will benefit from three new mini-flumes with a dual slide, twist slide and wavy slide.
Mr Baldwin said: "We have listened to what our customers want and this refurbishment will make the venue even more impressive than when it first opened.
"We apologise for any inconvenience this temporary closure may cause but we are confident that our customers will be more than happy with the finished result."
The Lagoons will reopen on December 1 when customers will be invited to join in celebrating the official opening of the new look area.
