HUNDREDS of people will be on the run in Doncaster town centre tomorrow night ... but it is nothing for the police to be worried about.
Indeed it is mainly due to the police's support that the 15th annual Town Centre Road Race continues to run.
"Both the police and Doncaster Council have been very supportive because for the event to take place we have to stop or control the traffi
c for nearly two hours," said race official Roy Veal last night.
"There used to be a few such races in the 90s, but a lot of them were forced to call a halt because of the disruption to traffic and possibly we are the only one left."
The event was first run to commemorate the town's 800th anniversary after being awarded a charter in 1994, and has grown to become one of Doncaster top sporting summer attractions.
The event, which features a One mile family fun run, a 5km Veterans' race and a 5km Open race, has again attracted entries from all over Yorkshire and beyond, and total entries are again expected to top the 450 mark.
Scunthorpe's Pumlani Bangani, who won last year's event, and Doncaster-based Rotherham Harrier, Jenny Blizard, who won the women's race, will both be looking to defend their titles.
One of the biggest local threats to the visiting elite will be Doncaster Athletic Club's Jon Guveya who has recorded several impressive results on the road in recent months.
Simon Wright and Kev Newman wlll be among the fancied runners in the vets' race.
Entries for all three events will be taken on the night from 6pm onwards either in the council's jobs shop or the Mansion House steps.
