PILKINGTON Recreation's Mick Reilly defended the Doncaster Association Champion of Champions title triumphing over a strong field of 17 who had all won competitions in the last calendar year.
At Eden Grove-Pegler's green, Reilly became only the fourth player to defend the title, and the eighth to win it more than once.
Reilly defeated Jackie Fraser, winner of the newly-inaugurated DDBA Series competition, in the first round, before edg
ing out Paul Morgan of EG Sports (Barrie O'Brien Open winner) in his next game and then in the semi-final comfortably beating Keith Ryde of Armthorpe, who had won the Westfield Park Clark Racing Open.
In the final, Reilly faced 2002 winner Danny Sillito, who had won the Meir Open earlier in the season. Despite battling his way through four difficult games to reach the final, including an impressive 21-13 win against Woodlands Park's Chris Brown in the last four, Sillito never got going in the final.
Reilly won the first six ends for a 7-0 lead. The closest Sillito was to get was 9-3 down. Reilly led 15-3 and wrapped up the title at 21-4.
