Blizard warning as Jenny repeats road triumph

ROTHERHAM'S Jenny Blizard successfully defended the Doncaster Town Centre Open 5k womens' road race title last night.
The Doncaster-based runner repeated her success last year in a time of 17 minutes nine seconds. Hallamshire's Liz Such (17.30) was second.

Altrincham's Jason Ward won the mens' race in a quick time of 14.44. Last year's winner, Pumlani Bangani, was third. Rotherham's Phil Hoole (15.07), was the first South Yorkshire runner home in the 167-strong field in fourth place while Pete Talents (16.15) and Jon Guveya (16.20), were the first two home for the promoting club, finishing 15th and 16th respectively.

Hallamshire won the men's team prize.

Doncaster's Simon Wright (16.23) beat Sheffield Running Club's Kevin Lilley (16.25) into second spot in the verterans' field. Hallamshire's`Dean Furnace (16.50), was fourth overall and third in the vet-40 class.

Chris Ireland (Sheffield Running Club) was second in the vet-45 race.

Doncaster's Kev Newman (16.54) won the vet-50 race from Sheffield Running Club's Sidney Curdle (17.09) and Rotherham's Peter Shaw (17.8) after finishing sixth.

Rotherham's Rob Tintinger (18.09) won the vet-60 race and Epworth-based Victor Shirley (19.52) took the vet-65 title.
