FOR the last four years Pat Smith has been wandering around Sheffield trying to find somewhere to stick her Japanese Peace Pole.
"I wrote to the Winter Gardens, the Botanical Gardens, Town Hall and then Lord Mayor and didn't get a reply," she says.
Pat, aged 73, from Hunters Bar, already had one peace pole in her garden and didn't have room for another. So for the last four years the eight foot PVC pole has been propped up in her lounge.
Then she struck lucky with council leader Paul Scriven, who found a spot for it in the Japanese Garden within the Walled Garden at Meersbrook Park.
Pat, supported by her friends and family, was there to witness it being concreted in the other day.
"I'd tried everywhere but nobody wanted it. They say if a peace pole is planted in every city there will be peace all over the world," says Pat.
