"IT'S all about tease," purrs Debora, the hostess and compere of Peek-a-Boo, Sheffield's sexiest night out which next month celebrates its second birthday.
Along Cambridge Street will tramp gents in tuxedos, perhaps a top hat or two, while the girls are in evening dress, or corsets and suspenders, all heading for what is bound to be an eye opener of an evening.
"Suggested dress code: glamorous, suited and booted, Rockabilly, Vintage, Teddy Boy, Forties, Fifties or completely off the wall, in other words, no street wear or casual," urges the web site, encouraging people to be way out.
The entertainment will be even more extravagantly dressed - or undressed.
"It's a nice friendly atmosphere while on stage is classical burlesque and tease-o-rama with a modern twist," says Debora (the only name she wants to be known by).
What do you think of the return of burlesque? Post your comments below."Some girls get down to nipple tassels, other girls don't. It's celebrating the art of burlesque and vaudeville," she adds.
The night has really taken off since she started it almost two years ago. While it has moved from venue to venue - "we've outgrown them or they've closed down on us," says Debora - it has now settled on the appropriately named Stardust Bar in Cambridge Street.
Bizarre magazine recently voted Peek-a-Boo as "one of the top ten best places where tease outweighs the sleaze."
Debora, a 32-year-old Australian who came to Sheffield to watch a band and found love, adds: "We get people here as old as 73.
"It's not a normal night out you get in Sheffield. You are not going to have an 18-year-old vomiting on your shoes. Even the doormen say they've never seen such a dressy night,"
The artistes may appear on stage in a cloud of feathers, behind a cluster of strategically placed balloons or seductively peel off a succession of spangly clothes.
Topping the bill on Saturday, November 17, will be Vicky Butterfly - "a Carnival Queen with a show-stopping 18" corseted waist" - supported by Kitten Von Mew, whose web site commands: "Stand to attention boys, Kitten's on her way."
Kitten says she loves the "fantastic reaction" she gets from the Sheffield audience. She strips down to her "nipple pasties" but says it is important never to bare all.
"I believe that the mind is the stronger eye. People see what they want to see."
Debora says the music matches the mood at Peek-a-Boo.
"In a nutshell, it's a retrograde Forties and Fifties night with burlesque. I love the fact that we can play Tom Jones and Las Vegas cabaret cheese and everybody gets up to dance," says Debora.
Peek-a-Boo fits in very nicely with her everyday business running the clothes shop Ultravixen because people often drop in for outfits or accessories to match the theme of the night.
