AFTER an annus horribilis things are looking up for Sheffield writer and poet Debjani Chatterjee.
She was at Buckingham Palace in her best sari today to collect her MBE for services to literature - an event postponed because of treatment for a rare form of breast cancer.
"I've had a gruelling year since last summer," she told the Diary before the investiture.
The writer, editor and translator of around 50 books lost most of the volumes from her own publishing company in the Sheffield Flood. Then the cancer treatment started.
Yesterday she watched as her uncle, Dr Tridibesh Mukherjee picked up the Bessemer Gold medal for services to the steel industry. He studied for his PhD in Sheffield, raised his family here, and is now a director of steel giant Tata.
Dr Chatterjee went to Buck House with her mother Tara and husband Brian D'Arcy.
"I shall be wearing a silk sari. Any sari looks special but my husband Brian has a new suit as an early birthday present," she says.
She's been selected as writer in residence at York St John University and commissioned to write three poems for the CBeebies channel.
"I have much to celebrate," she says.
